Leadership Vacancies
Oddments Theatre have a mission to share the Christian message in prisons, churches and schools through drama. We tour across the UK bringing thought-provoking and powerful productions that tell stories of faith.
We are looking to fill two major leadership positions in our charity, which will take the charity forwards into a new chapter. Click on a role below to see the overview, and the downloadable information pack gives much more detail about both available roles.
Please note: Both these posts are subject to an occupational requirement under Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010 that the post holder is a practising Christian.
To Apply to either role: Please send your CV and cover letter, outlining which position you are applying for, why you are applying for that position and how you fit our personal specification, to recruitment@oddments-theatre.co.uk. Deadline for applications: 11pm on Tuesday 28th July
Director
Our Charity Director will soon be stepping aside to allow someone new to lead Oddments into the future. The right individual will be someone who passionately wants to see Oddments’ mission continue, and who has the vision and experience to lead the charity forwards in that aim.
Day-to-day responsibilities of the role include:
- Managing admin staff and Team Lead
- Planning and producing shows
- Directing rehearsals (or bring in external director)
- Handling finances
- Implementing policy & procedures, such as Health and Safety
- Promoting the charity, for example at some Christian conferences
- Communicating with trustees to ensure good governance
- Interviewing and auditioning staff and freelance actors
The role could also include elements of touring with the acting team, communicating with supporters and helping to secure bookings for shows. As a charity, it is often the case that roles are varied and certain tasks require a team approach at busy times of the year.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has strong leadership skills and experience
- Is a Christian, with a living faith in Jesus that they are happy to share with others
- Knowledge of theatre – has some experience in the industry and knows what makes a show impactful and engaging for the audience, being able to bring the Christian message through in a clear way. Experience in directing is desirable.
- Is competent in basic computer administration skills and making phone calls
- Is able to handle budgets and finances
- Is confident and sociable – generally gets on well with people
- Has a full UK driving license and is willing to drive company van
- Prioritises safety and safeguarding
- Is adaptable to unexpected situations and able to pick up new skills quickly
- Lives, or is willing to move, close to our base in Yeovil
Team Lead
The Team Lead role is second-in-command to the charity’s director. This person works closely with the director to plan and produce productions and recruit actors. They are also involved with the administration team, helping to secure bookings, advertise productions and organise tour schedules.
During rehearsal and show periods, the Team Lead acts as a bridge between the acting team and the director, feeding information in both directions. They are often involved in directing, acting and touring themselves, and may take the team on tour with or without the Chairty Director.
The Team Lead should be someone with a heart for Oddments’ Christian mission, experience in leadership and an ability to balance different projects and tasks. They should be hard-working, confident around new people and should be living, or able to move, near to our base in Yeovil. We also require a UK driving licence, as the Team Lead may be required to drive company vehicles, including larger vehicles.
Co-Leaders
The two roles listed are a reflection of the company’s current set-up. However, we are open to someone coming in with a new vision for how to run the charity, and this may involve reorganising the leadership roles above. We are happy to discuss these ideas with applicants – for example, we would be open to two people applying to co-lead the charity together, instead of the two roles shown.
